Filibusters: The Senate’s Self-Inflicted Wound

The cries against super-majoritarianism mount.

Agreed. The United States Senate must forego its "supermajoritarianism" and become an institution based on a simple majority vote. However, we have seen in the past that US Senators feel they are members of the greatest legislative body on Earth. And stated in the article by Senator Byrd, the power of the filibuster is all the separates it from the House of Representatives. Sounds a little demeaning, does it not?

Using the filibuster can, at times, come in handy. But at this point in time, of political toxicity for the GOP, can they really afford to filibuster measures aimed at mending the economy and continuing basic government functions?

Stalling spending bills for government function has the strong smell of Newt v. Bill in the late 90's, when government was shut down due to lack of any money to pay for its operations.
