"The Grand White Party"

Anyone else excited/apprehensive about tomorrow's GOP chairmanship vote? Given my liberal bias, Steele scares me because I think he could really revive the GOP. Here's to hoping that the GOP picks either the member of the white-only country club or the guy who sent out the song "Barack the Magic Negro."

Yeah. It is pretty exciting.

1. This isn't about congress.

2. There's no "white-only country club" that functions as wing of the republican party. Perhaps there is a more academic way of arguing your views in an upper level political science class than characterizing people you disagree with on taxes and environmental policies as "racists!".

3. Without getting too much into the fact that you are essentially calling quite a few members of our class "racists", it is unfortunate that you are "scared" by the idea of a black man gaining the top leadership position in a major political party in America...because he is a black man. Thanks for the commentary though!

Additionally, "Barack the Magic Negro" is a phrase excerpted from a liberal editorial in the LA Times. Evidently liberals who make jokes are hilarious(!) while conservatives are obviously all a bunch of racists.

Personally this article and the commentary kind of offend me. Since when is the GOP a 'white-only party?' I do believe that President Bush had more minorities in his Administration that Clinton ever appointed. As for the GOP, it is the people who vote them into office, they are not hand picked by any top 'GOP Official.' Additionally, 'Barack the Magic Negro' is a phrase used by the LA Times, and the author of that phrase was an African American.

in response to my comments, perhaps I misspoke.
1) the white-only country club is reference to one of the GOP chairmanship candidates who DID IN FACT belong to a white-only country club. I am not calling this a "wing of the republican party," but rather a fact about a single candidate
2)I am not calling anyone into the class a racist, I am mentioning that a specific candidate belonged to a racist golf course. By no means do I_ think that all conservatives are racist.
3)The GOP has transformed itself largely into a white-only party (Nixon's Southern Strategy), but is now realizing that this is unsustainable.
4) What scares me about Michael Steele is that he is a tremendously good candidate for the office he seeks
5) How is the GOP chairmanship NOT about congress? Last I checked, party chairs had quite a bit to do with congressional races.
