Senator Feingold has an impressive resumé when it comes to making early calls on key issues. From campaign finance, to the Patriot Act, to setting a timetable in Iraq, he has always been a progressive leader.
In addition, it is an honor to have Senator Feingold follow the late Senator LaFollette in refining the United States Senate to be a real representation of the people. The Senate is an elite body where few are chosen to participate in the upper house of our legislature.
The importance of having seats be filled by the people, and not through appointment, is key to our democracy. In agreement with Senator Feingold, the seat very well could be left open until the next election cycle. This may also encourage further thought before gutting the Senate to fill higher government positions.
To be honest, with all the "hoopla" going on in Illinois with Blagojevich, it's hard to disagree with Feingold on this.
