This is a class blog for the students of POLSCI 426: Congressional Politics at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee.
The new comeback kid? Congress.
I found this to be interesting. I am quite surprised that only mere 31% of Americans approve of Congress' actions, what is even more surprising is that this is a 12% increase from last month, Congress' highest rating in the past two years. I realize that Americans don't always agree with Congress' latest policies, but less than 31%?

The polling of the approval of Congress has always been unique when comparing to other institutions of government. Today we see the President with an approval well over 60%. People seem to always have a high approval for their own representative, whether in the House or Senate. Even at the state level, approval for their governor is always relatively high.
Why so low for Congress? I feel its an outlet for frustration. People see the President everyday, along with their governor in local news, and will assume that their representatives in Congress are doing their job.
But Congress as a body? Horrible. I doubt that within our lifetime we will ever see approval of Congress hit 60% like a sitting President. We would be lucky to see it hit 50%.
I believe this all goes down to partisan values. Some will cross the aisle to approve of a President, but those sitting in Congress are merely "dirty politicians."
All spending bills originate in the House, but so do voters' frustrations.
