Sources: Sen. Judd Gregg Accepts Commerce Secretary Post

In relation to the article posted by TA Matt a couple of days ago, Sen. Gregg has apparently accepted a position in President Obama's cabinet as Secretary of Commerce. This appointment could tip the balance of the Senate toward a filibuster-proof "super majority" in favor of the Democrats if New Hampshire's governor selects a Dem. to replace the Republican Gregg. Does anybody think this is momentous, or is it too highly unlikely that the Governor would appoint a Democratic replacement?

from what i've read, it seems as though a deal may have been made forcing the governor to appoint a republican, but he may chose a "place-holder," thereby eliminating a republican incumbent in 2010.

It would almost be laughable and perhaps a move that could make the Democrats worse off in the long-run. Perhaps the fact that it is the earliest it could be to make such a partisan move maybe forgettable by the 2010 mid-terms. The trail of political appointments this presidential election has brought and the stories that have run alongside of them are almost unthinkable and couldn't be better if they were scripted for a number of movies. Only in politics.

I think this is a great move by Obama. It could create a filibuster free senate!
