A look at Crist's own advertisements, which, as the article mentioned, have also taken more combative stance recently:

This is probably my favorite Senate race to watch. Crist is trying the old "I didn't leave the Republican party, the Republican party left me" thing. It appears nobody is buying it and most people feel he is a classic politician doing whatever he can to get power. I don't see a way were he wins, either he sucks votes away from the right and Meek squeezes by(highly unlikely) or he sucks votes from the left and Rubio wins. I think in the modern climate the whole independent thing won't work, maybe in 2006 but right now people(especially Floridians) want someone who will take a stand
If you're a third party junkie, I think the Rhode Island gubernatorial election is a better bet.
This is interesting because it seems like the democrats should be trying to bring down Rubio since he is actually in the lead. I was actually in Florida over the last semester for school and most people seemed to think that the Democratic primary between was a race for third in the general, so I guess if he gets back to second, I guess that would be interesting.
In general the way parties and election advertisements go, they are pretty entertaining. I often question the fabrication of each ad.
