A primary challenge to the President from the right would be a hard sell, especially considering the makeup of Democratic primary voters in the likely early states (New Hampshire, Iowa, Michigan, perhaps Nevada and Florida).
Primary challenges to sitting Presidents are hard sells (in fact the only I can remember off the top of my head is Ted Kennedy in 1980, and event then he was stomped by Jimmy Carter) President Obama would have to sink to <30% approval ratings for the that to happen.
