Republicans Make Repealing Healthcare Reform #1 Priority

No big surprise here. However, a few senators have to walk a fine line with how much they want to be on board with replacing the bill. Should there be a big turnover in Congress, these guys may not get everything they want.

This is the one thing that bothers me about bill such as this. They are too vulnerable to political will.

So their platform is to promise to repeal health care? Nevermind that it is likely going to be unpopular. They are promising something they cannot hope to actually accomplish. Even if Democrats lose every Senate race, Republican would barely have a majority. There is no way Obama wouldn't Veto a repeal, and you need 66 votes to overrule a veto.

I think that repealing healthcare will only be unpopular if they do not replace it with something better. I think we have to see how this plan works and what the public thinks of it. I think the healthcare plan will crash because the public has unrealistic expectations. I think that many problems such as what happens when someone with cancer does not respond to a conventional drug and an experimental drug comes out. Is the health insurance company required to pay for the experimental drug? Medicare and Medicaid both deny treatment for experimental drugs as well. There will still be people who will not get the treatment they need. The problems also include making sure everyone has a conforming plan and determining what how much should insurance companies cover for pre-existing conditions. Most people know that insurance companies do not pay the entire costs of treatment for most people now. The problem of what to do with people who still cannot afford insurance and have to pay a fine, and will still not have insurance. Medicare and medicaid does not pay for the full amount of treatment and the costs get passed along to everyone else. Medicaid roles will greatly expand now and more people will pay less, meaning more people will pay higher costs when going to a doctor. These are just some of the issues with healthcare.
