Senate Belatedly Passes Spending Bill for 2007

The Senate approved a spending bill for the 2007 year that funds almost half of the federal government. While approving this bill is not so interesting in itself, the fact that the Democrats in Congress issued a continuing resolution to ensure that some of their priorities (Pell Grants included) are included in the spending measure has angered some Republicans because they claim they were not allowed to offer amendments to the bill. Sen. Trent Lott claimed that majority leader Harry Reid was "trying to turn the Senate into a mini-House."
My response: WWRD? What would the Republicans do if they still had majority in the House? Enough said.

This is an attempt to change the status quo in the budget, even though the bill is passing late because the fiscal year started on October 1. What really impressed me about the Senate in this case is how they changed the status quo, by adding money to many areas, such as Pell grants and veteran benefits. This is a result of party differences that occurred from some sort of multi-dimensional analysis on the part of the democratic control house. It is obvious issues such as funding for students and veterans health are more salient (matter more) than that of other issues when the Republicans were in control of the Senate.
