Suicide doctor plans congressional run
We have spent a lot of time in class talking about how difficult it is for challengers to run against incumbents. I find it interesting that a doctor who has attempted to commit suicide is trying to run for congress. First off he must be having a hard time with his practice for the fact that I can't imagine to many individuals would want a doctor as their doctor who has tried to commit suicide. I think it will be really hard for him to run against an incumbent with that time of status but we will have to see how everything plays out.

Um, Dr. Kevorkian never "attempted suicide" himself. If you remember, he assisted terminally or mentally ill people commit suicide. Hence the 2nd degree murder conviction a few years back. I believe that would weigh heavier on voters minds than if he had attempted suicide himself. Look at Pat Kennedy, Rep. from Rhode Island, he's been in and out of rehab for drugs and mental illness for years, and he still gets elected!
I agree with williamhenry. Its basically up to the people to decide who they want. I mean we have a senator, Larry Craig, denying he's gay but commits inappropriate conduct in the airport bathroom, then there's Spitzer and his prostitution scandal, and finally we have even Spitzer's successor, David Paterson admitting to having affairs. So, in short I believe its all about the people and who they want elected.
