America Is Not Yet Lost

Op-ed about Senate in "paralysis" because of the filibuster and the ability of individual senators to put a hold on nominations in effect holding hostage the senate and govt agencies waiting for their appointed heads to be confirmed.

That's an interesting article. It does paint a grim picture of our nation's future if Congress can't move anything forward, and keeps getting gridlocked. Although, at least at this point in time, if something big came up which threatened our nation's security, I'm guessing that Congress could band together.

In my opinion, Krugman might be overstating things. The procedural obstacles can be extremely frustrating, but I don't think we are headed towards America's downfall as he characterizes it. At the same time, I don't think it would be a bad idea to re-examine some of the senate rules that make it exceedingly difficult to get anything done.
