Obama not wearing his lapel pin.

I read an article on CNN about Obama not wearing his flag pin on his lapel. Now is that such a big deal to everyone? He states by saying, "My attitude is that I'm less concerned about what you're wearing on your lapel than what's in your heart. And you show your patriotism by how you treat your fellow Americans, especially those who served. You show your patriotism by being true to our values and our ideals and that's what we have to lead with is our values and our ideals." I feel the same way, some of our other Presidntial candidates don't always wear a flag pin either, nor does our own President. So, what's the big deal??

I agree with him that the wearing of a lapel pin is an incredibly poor way to judge someone's patriotism, or lack thereof. But I understand why Republicans would attack him with stuff like that - which is because as lame as it is, that kind of thing has worked very well for them in the past, they know that, and they're kind of good at it. I heard he prefers the Dixie Chicks to Toby Keith too.

I agree with Obama as well. Unfortunatley society is too caught up in appearance and other characteristic factors regarding candidates as opposed to their patriotism and stances on issues.

I've gotta fall in line with Sally and everyone else on this one;
Senator Obama's decision not to wear the American Flag lapel pin really isn't a big deal.

A person's actions, and to a lesser degree their words, are the proper measure of a person's mettle.

Following that train of thought - their wardrobe choices are almost meaningless, unless perhaps we're talking about white hoods and swastikas.

I was always disturbed by the rush by some groups in late 2001 and early 2002 to almost literally "wear the flag on your sleeve." It was as if people believed that wearing a dime-sized pin or a slapping a yellow magnetic ribbon on your car made you more of an American than your neighbor.

All THAT made you was a better consumer.

Well, wait a minute here: as Americans, we ARE capitalists.
And President Bush DID call on us, as our patriotic duty, to continue to go to the malls and spend spend spend, so, maybe the pin-wearing, yellow ribbon crowd were actually on to something...

Hmm.
